OBITUARIES

MARILYN M. WIERS
PALMYRA—Marilyn M. Wiers, 82, loving wife, mother and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2008 at Sebasticook Healthcare Facility. She was born October 24, 1926 in Fort Fairfield, a daughter of Oland and Myrtle (Spearin) MacLauchlan. She graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1945 and married Byron Wiers on November 22, 1945. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm and raised three children. She was a member of the St. Albans Grange, the Peoples United Methodist Church, Newport; past president of the Somerset County Extension ; past president, secretary and treasurer of the St. Albans Extension Group; past director, secretary and treasurer of the Maine State Farm Bureau, Somerset County ;past president and district director of the Newport Business and Professional Womens Club; 4-H Leader; attended Home Demonstration Council meetings in Kentucky and Kansas; and was a past member of the St. Albans Union Church. Marilyn enjoyed swapping recipes and her Oatmeal Pie was a big hit at all the church suppers. One of her joys was making clothing for her family. Marilyn and her husband loved to travel to Vermont to visit special friends.

In addition to her husband of Palmyra, she is survived by 2 sons, Michael and wife Libby of St. Albans, and Stephen and wife Buffy of Palmyra; daughter, Rebecca “Becky” of Palmyra; her brother Donn and wife Mary Jane MacLauchlin of Pittsfield; sister-in-law, Jean MacLauchlin of Lakeland, FL; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, November 12th, at Peoples United Methodist Church, 127 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. Burial will be in the St. Albans Village Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Sebasticook Healthcare Facility for their loving care of our loved one.
