MARTHA (MCKENNEY) ALEXANDER
ETNA - Martha M. Alexander, 88, went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2009 at a Bangor health care facility. She was born May 6, 1921 in Newport a daughter of George and Myra (Stevens) McKenney. Martha -"Tarpie" to some- will be greatly missed for her loving ways: her love for babies and family, with a kiss and a hug for all. Her cooking will be missed, especially her famous apple pie and cheese. She married her first husband, Claude Ordway, and they farmed in Etna for a number of years. Martha also worked as a cook in several area restaurants. She was a past member of the Etna Grange and the Etna Rebekahs. Claude predeceased her in 1984. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Lewis Alexander, in 2003; 2 sons, Duane Ordwary in 1971, and Robert Ordway in 2004; an infant daughter, Margaret Jean ; a step son, William Alexander in 2008; and a great granddaughter, Jenni Bemis in 2000.

She is survived by a daughter Olive and husband Jack Bergert of Zephyrhills, FL and Winter Harbor; 2 step daughters, Kay and husband Lester Savage, and Ruth Lennox, all of Hudson, FL; a daughter-in-law, Katherine Alexander of Hamilton, NJ; 7 grandchildren, Eileen Bemis, Janelle Leeman, Renee Fournier, Cindy Ordway , Jack, Jeffrey and Bruce Bergert; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece and her husband, Respah and Allen Graves with whom she made her home, and their children with whom she was like a grandmother; as well as special friends, Evelyn Flower, Helen and Jr. Ridinger, Kathy Norwood, Jerry and Josina. Martha was also predeceased by her brothers, Perley, Glenwood, Charles, Norman and Carol; and sisters, Susie, Jennie, Myrtle, Olive and Barbara. The family wishes to thank the staff at Westgate Manor in Bangor for their wonderful care.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 PM Sunday, June 14th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Monday, with the Rev. Ronnie Libby officiating.
