MAX MATIJCZYK
NEWPORT—Max Matijczyk, 86, died December 24, 2007 at Sebasticook Valley Hospital. He was born August 15, 1921 in Chicopee, MA, a son of Maryan and Bulbina Matijczyk, both of Poland. Max served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He was later stationed at Dow Field in Maine where he met and married his loving wife, Evangeline.

Max was a life member of the Corinna Post #73 American Legion and a member of the Corinna United Methodist Church. He was an active member and much involved in the preservation and care of the North Newport Church.

He was a master furniture maker and many of his projects are enjoyed by people in the area. In his retirement years, he took great pride in maintaining his land.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evangeline (Gray) of Newport; son, Max A. and wife Yvonne Matijczyk; daughter, Marie and husband Malcolm Hartsgrove; granddaughter, Katrina and husband Eric Domnissey; 2 grandsons, Matthew Matijczyk and special friend, Lisa Joakimides and Jason and wife Annette Matijczyk; step grandsons and families, Craig and wife Jennifer Hartsgrove and Scott and wife Kendra Hartsgrove, and Ryan; sister, Helen Matijczyk; and two “adopted” grandchildren Jackie and Timmy Sawtelle. Max was predeceased by his brothers, Albin, Adolph, Frank, and John; and sisters, Olga, Sophie, and Celia.

A memorial service will be announced by Crosby & Neal, Newport. The family would like to say a special “thank-you” to those people who helped keep Max in his home since his stroke in 2005.

A memorial service for Max Matijczyk, who passed away December 25, 2007, will be held 2 PM Saturday, June 7th, at the North Newport Christian Church with the Rev. Bruce Hudson officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Max in a special way may donate to the "Warren Center" to benefit children with hearing and speech problems: Warren Hearing Center, 175 Union Street, Bangor, ME 04401.
