Muriel C. Cyr
HARTLAND—Muriel C. Cyr, 92, went home to be with the Lord on March 30, 2012. She was born February 19, 1920 in Biddeford, the daughter of Alphonse and Corinne (Paul) Chretien. Growing up in southern Maine, Muriel was a devout Catholic girl with lots of style. She was always dressed to impress in her heels and sharp outfits. Muriel, with the help of her parents, raised her only son, Tom. He was the light of her life. Throughout most of her life she took care of children and once owned a hot dog truck that traveled through the Old Orchard Beach/Saco area providing warm lunches to all who wanted them. Her granddaughters spent many weekends with “Gram” playing dress-up in her clothes and on Sunday going to church and out for Chinese food later. For several years, Muriel extended her generosity with sponsoring young girls in less fortunate countries. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield.

She is survived by 2 brothers, Gerard and wife Andrea Chretien of Alfred and Raymond and wife Therese Chretien of Lyman; a daughter-in-law, Paula Cyr of Newport; cherished granddaughters, Jennifer and husband Jon Hanson of Palmyra and Jessica Mills of Hartland; great grandchildren, Sydney Hanson and Austin Mills; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Imo Herard and family, who mourn her loss. Muriel will be remembered by friends and staff at Sanfield Living Center, her home for the last eight years.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Royal Chretien; husband, Elmer Philbrick; and a great granddaughter, Catherine Jo Mills. At long last, she also will be joining Thomas A. Cyr, her beloved son.

Graveside services will be held 10 AM Saturday, May 12th, at the family lot, Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland.
