Muriel (Dow) Nelson She worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in Presque Isle as a telephone operator for several years, later moving to Dexter in 1940, where she continued to work for the telephone company until they went to dial in 1954. She later retired from Dexter Shoe Company in 1972. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter, the Golden Age Club, the Senior Citizens of Corinna, and as a volunteer for the Meals for ME program for many years. She will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and how much her family meant to her. She was the last surviving member of a family of 11, and was also predeceased by a daughter, Elaine in 1939, and her husband in 1993. She is survived by a son, R. Dale Nelson and his companion, Carol Miller of Winterport; a daughter, Linda Clukey and her husband, David of Dexter; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Dana Nickerson of Presque Isle. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter, where funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, with Pastor Andrew Bermudez officiating. Spring burial will be in the Crocker Cemetery in St. Albans. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 573, Dexter, ME 04930.
