OBITUARIES

ORMAN M. FORTIER
GUILFORD, Orman M. Fortier, 92, died September 27, 2007, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was born July 2, 1915, in Guilford, son of William and Elizabeth (Emery) Fortier. He graduated from Guilford High School and then attended Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville. Orm was a well known athlete in the local area and was nominated for the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. He lettered in 3 sports both in high school and at Coburn. Orm continued his participation in sports as catcher and outfielder for the Guilford Advertisers. He served in the US Army during WWII. While in the service in England, he was fullback and kicker for an Army football team, the Moore’s Maulers. A well rounded athlete, he also loved fishing, golf and even was known to have gotten a hole in one at the local golf course.

After the service, he served as Post Master in Guilford for several years. He later worked at Hardwood Products Company in Guilford for many years. Active in local affairs, Orm was a long time member of the SAD #4 School Board and later of the HAD #4 hospital board. Orm was a charter member of the Guilford Kiwanis Club and was involved in the administration of the club for many years. He was a member of the Guilford United Methodist Church. He was a 50 year member of Mt. Kineo Masonic Lodge #109 in Guilford, where he served as Master from 1961-1962, and was a former member of the IOOF in Guilford. He was the self proclaimed “only democrat in Guilford”.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eda (Franklin) Fortier and a grandson, Jay Moore.

He is survived by a son, Greg Fortier and his wife Kathy of Bangor; a daughter, Cheryl Moore of Plymouth, MA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Fortier, Jennifer Moore and her husband, Craig Oldershaw, Douglas Moore, and Karen Moore, wife of Jay Moore, who died in 1998; great grandchildren, Jack and Christa Moore, and Lily and Lucas Oldershaw; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Monday, October 1st, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak Street in Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday at the Guilford United Methodist Church with Pastor Steven Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawn Cemetery in Guilford.
