Oscar "Billy" Tate Jr. He attended schools in Corinth and Newport, and was a U.S. Army and Army National Guard veteran. He was the founder of Tate's Logging and Pulpwood Co., Corinth, and in more recent years the owner and operator of Tate's Construction, Corinth. Billy will be remembered for his love of family and work ethic. He was also an avid sports man, enjoyed animals and athletics. Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Bernardine (Woodward) Tate and one daughter, Tracy Tate, both of Corinth, are five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; one sister, Ruth Townsend and her husband, Darrell, of Hudson; a brother-in-law, Louis Betters of Corinth; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will also be missed by his constant companion, his dog, Casey. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters, Kelly Jo Tate and Robyn Tate-Brown. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Dalton Dunfee presiding. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
