OBITUARIES

RAYMOND K. TARDY
NEWPORT – Raymond K. Tardy, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday, October 22nd, 2005. He was born October 27, 1920 to Guy and Mabel (Prescott) Tardy of Newport. He graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1941. Ray served in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was in World War II serving most of it in the European, African, and Middle Eastern theatre of operations in ground combat against the enemy in Belgium, Holland and Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge. Among the medals he received were the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge and the World War II Victory Medal. On August 25, 1946, he married the former Rena Emerson, also of Newport. They were happily married for 59 years. Ray worked for the State of Maine for over 40 years, most of which as manager of Store #39 in Newport. He was also an active member of the High Street Church, serving as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and as a youth group helper. In recent years, he faithfully attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Newport. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #105, serving as Chaplain for many years.

In addition to his wife of Newport, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth of Newport, James and wife Robin of Alton; two daughters, Debra Tardy of Bangor, Linda and husband Don Arey of Brewer; a grandson, Eddie Arey and wife Carol; four great grandchildren, Mariah, Sean P., Amanda, and Tristan; a brother, Elden Tardy of Newport; and three sisters, Maude Smith of Newport, Mary Brewer of Corinna and Janace Wesley of Lakeland, FL. He was predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Joe Tardy; and two sisters, Helen Melanson and Ruth Emery.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 26th, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove Street, Newport, with the Rev. George Finnemore officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1 P.M. until the time of services. Burial will follow at the family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Newport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086; or the Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove Street, Newport, ME 04953.
