ROGER T. CRAIG
ASHLAND - T. Roger Craig, 84, beloved husband of the late Mildred (Munson) Craig, died April 23, 2001, at a Presque Isle hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Masardis, Jan. 6, 1917, the son of Harvey and Fannie (Rockwell) Craig. He was employed by the Prue Oil Company of Ashland and for Sears Service Dept. for several years. He then established his own business, Craig's Burner Service which he operated until his retirement in 1995. He served as fire chief for the Ashland Fire Department and was instrumental in establishing the Ashland Ambulance Service. He enjoyed many hours at his camp on the Machias River with his family and hunting with his special grandson, Jody.

Roger is survived by one son, Merle E. Craig Sr., and his wife, Karan of Ashland; one daughter, Catherine Calixto and her husband, Al of Richland, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Tammy Simpson of Hartford, Conn.; Merle E. "Jody" Craig Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Masardis, Tim Craig of South Berwick, Wendy Dufour of Caribou, Maria Sargent and husband, Zane, and Traci Calixto, all of Washington; Christopher Calixto of North Carolina; five great-grandchildren: Roger W., Amanda, Sean, K.C., and Derrick; one sister, Dorothy Robinson and husband, Vernon of Masardis; two brothers, Gerald Craig and his wife, Pauline, Vernon Craig and his wife, Ernestine, all of Masardis; one sister-in-law, Lillian Craig of East Corinth; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Munson and wife, Sally of Penn.; Philip Munson of Lewiston; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife in 1999.

There will be no services at this time. Family and friends who wish are invited to call at the family residence, 57 School St., Ashland, at their convenience from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Masardis/Oxbow Snowmobile Club would be appreciated. A graveside committal service will be announced and held at the Ashland Municipal Cemetery later this spring. Arrangements are a service of Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland.
