RUSSELL L. ELKINS
DIXMONT & EAST NEWPORT - Russell Lee Elkins, 61, died October 23, 2008 at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born December 13, 1946 in Dexter a son of Earl and Elaine (Salisbury) Elkins. He graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1965 and served in the U. S. Army as a helicopter mechanic from 1967 to 1995, with tours in Korea, Vietnam and Granada. After retiring from the military, Russell worked for several aviation contractors, including Telford Aviation in Bangor. He was a member of the Newport Memorial Post # 11191, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Richard W. Simpson Post #201 American Legion in Dixmont.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Monika (Gehring) Elkins of Dixmont; 3 daughters, Loi Morrin of Fairbanks, AK, Kristina Elkins of Anchorage, AK, and Jennifer Miller of Gladstone, ND; a step-daughter, Stefanie Foutch of Dixmont; 2 sisters, Gloria Bessette and her significant other Ashley Powers of Bass Harbor, and Janet Murphy and husband Curran of Stockton Springs; 9 grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 2 PM Thursday, November 6th, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport.
