SCOTT W. JAYNES
SCOTT W. JAYNESPITTSFIELD - Scott Jaynes, 45, died at home January 3, 2007 after a five month battle with esophageal cancer. Scott was born September 11, 1961 in Syracuse, NY to William and Dorothy (Drumm) Jaynes. He graduated from Baker High School, Baldwinsville, NY in 1979. He enlisted in the US Navy upon graduation and served 12 years. He received a good conduct discharge in 1992 as a Boatswainmate 1st Class. Most of those 12 years were spent in Virginia Beach,VA. He was stationed in Holy Lock, Scotland for one tour, and was deployed on various ships throughout his naval career.

He met his wife while they were both serving a ACB-2 in Little Creek, VA. Scott was a den leader for the Boy Scout Pack #428 in Pittsfield, volunteered with the Pittsfield Community Little League, and was a member of the Driftbusters Snowmobile Club in Pittsfield. Three years ago Scott found the job of his dreams. He started working as a substitute teacher. He was then hired as an Ed-Tech at the Vickery School in Pittsfield. Scott enjoyed summers at Stetson shores. You would find him out in his boat fishing as the sun was coming up. Dutch oven cooking was his summer specialty. Every Sunday was spent having popcorn and watching the Nascar races. He loved lots of snow so he could take his son, Chad snowmobiling and ice skating. He also liked to take Chad on ATV trips.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cynthia J. (Burr) Jaynes and their son, Chad P. Jaynes, both of Pittsfield; Scott’s son, Shawn Barker of Syracuse, NY his father, William Jaynes of Pittsfield; cousin, Jerry Jaynes and his wife Maureen of Syracuse, NY; mother-in-law, Linda Lougee and her husband George of Newport; father-in-law, Lawrence Burr and wife Faith of Norfolk, MA; sister-in-law, Amanda Burr of Norfolk, MA; brother-in-law, L. Robert Burr of Newport; nieces, Maggie of Hartland, Emma and Allison Burr and a very special nephew, Patrick Burr, all of Newport; special friends, Shelley, Mike and Nick DeMilia of Sterling, MA. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy, on October 26, 2005. The students and staff at Vickery School will sadly miss him.

Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday, January 5th at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. A celebration of Scott’s life will be held 10 A. M. Saturday, at the CalvaryBaptistChurch,39 Grove Street, Newport with Pastor George Finnemore officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scott Jaynes Memorial Fund, c/o Crosby & Neal, which will be used for music in the SAD 53 school system.
