SHIRLEY M. BROOKS
CORINTH - Shirley M. Brooks, 79, husband of the late Virginia (Stewart) Brooks, died Feb. 24, 2003, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Corinth, the son of Frank and Lena (DeWitt) Brooks. He was a World War II veteran in the Merchant Marines and had worked most of his life as a self-employed heavy equipment operator. He owned and operated Exeter Raceways for a number of years and then owned and operated the Red Garter in Exeter and St. Albans since the mid-60s. He had been a member of the Corinthian Lodge, I.O.O.F and the Corinth American Legion.

He is survived by a son, Stewart of Corinth; two grandsons, Eric Brooks and his wife, Sarah, of Charleston and Devon Brooks of Corinth; a granddaughter, Tracy Filch; two great-grandchildren, Damien and Erica Brooks of Charleston; a nephew, Francis "Buddy" Whitney of Harmony; and close friends, Judy Waldron, Ted Perkins, and Everett and Olive Nichols. Shirley was predeceased by a sister, Beryl Whitney and a niece, Rosalie Freeman.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Michael Pike officiating.
