VIOLA F. LANDER
GUILFORD, Viola F. Lander, 88, died November 22, 2001 at her home in Guilford. She was born January 24, 1913 in Guilford, daughter of Ernest and Bernice (Herring) Conner. She was a member of the Guilford Center Baptist Church where she served as treasurer and was instrumental in keeping the church open for many years when full time Pastors were not available. Viola was a 7th degree member of the National Grange, 6th degree member of the State Grange, 5th degree member of the Pamona Grange and a member of the Guilford Center Grange where she has belonged for 73 years. She was also a member of the Guilford Senior Citizens, the Guilford Historical Society, the Guilford Senior Extension, the Mayo Hospital Auxiliary, the Elmwood Cemetery Board, and served the Town of Guilford as Ballot Clerk and Warden for many years. For 19 years she worked as a cook for the SAD #4 School District. In the spring of 2001 Viola was presented the, "To Those Who Care Award".

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Robert and Joyce Lander of Abbot, William and Constance Lander of Milton, NH, Donald Lander of Frederick, MD, and Roderick and Carmen Lander of Guilford; a daughter, Joyce Huff of Parsippany, NJ; a sister, Vivian Reardon of Guilford; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Viola was predeceased by her husband, Merwin L. Lander in 1981 and two daughters, Janice in 1993 and Ruth in 1938 and two great grandsons Josh Lander in 1991 and Merwin Grant in 1993.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Saturday November 24, 2001 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Sunday November 25, 2001 at the funeral home, with Pastor David Lassell officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Guilford.
