WOODROW L. STROBLE
GREENVILLE- Woodrow L. Stroble, 70, died December 8, 2010, at his home in Beaver Cove. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Woodie Stroble left an impression on everyone he met. Nothing brought him more joy than having his family with him in Greenville, where he perfected the art of persuading everyone to go on wilderness adventures that promised unexpected detours and lasting memories. He will be remembered as man of integrity who was true to himself and his principles, someone who was grateful for even the smallest details in his life and who asked for nothing more than exactly what he had. He was a reflective man with talents as a scholar, woodworker, photographer, outdoorsman, and student of the night sky.

He was born on July 1, 1940, in Williamson, NY to Woodrow W. and Esther (Hall) Stroble. He attended Williamson Central School, graduating in 1958. He earned a PhD. in American Literature from SUNY Binghamton. When he retired in 2004, he was the Director of Institutional Technology and Research at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. In retirement, he followed in Thoreau’s footsteps and went to the woods because he wished to live life deliberately. He will be greatly missed in person, but never far from our hearts in spirit.

He leaves behind his wife, Lucy Plyter Stroble, his daughter, Suzy Stroble Kaback, her husband Steve, and their two children, Will and Lindsay, and his son, Jonathan Stroble, and his wife, Stacey.
